Quoting the police, the media Fox News and NBC News reported that a 6-year-old girl was killed and at least five adults were injured when gunfire broke out in Washington, DC, on the night of Friday, July 16.
Deadly shooting in Washington
The girl was pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital for treatment after the shooting in Washington, local media WUSA-TV reported, also quoted by Fox News.
According to police reports, shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, officers on patrol heard gunshots in a commercial area around Malcolm X and Martin Luther King avenues. Then, the people who were in the area directed the officers to the place of the victims.
Washington shooting site is 5 miles from the Capitol
The site of the deadly shooting in Washington is located about 5 miles from the United States Capitol, WUSA’s Mike Valerio said on Twitter at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Deputy Executive Director of the DC Metropolitan Police Department, Ashan Benedict, mentioned in a video posted on Twitter at 1.53am on Saturday that all adults suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A group of people ran to ask the police for help
There was no immediate information on the suspects, arrests or the circumstances that led to the shooting in Washington, Fox News said. Assistant Principal Benedict asked that anyone with information on the case contact police at 202-727-9099.
NBC News also reported that officers patrolling the area had heard the roar of gunfire around 11:10 p.m., and when they responded, a group of people rushed to them for help.

Thursday’s shooting began when SWAT team members from Lubbock, Texas, responded around 2:15 p.m. local time to reports of shots being fired at a residence. Upon arrival, they were greeted with gunshots.
Sergeant was killed in the shooting
In that shooting in Texas, Sergeant Josh Bartlett, commander of the SWAT team, was killed. He was shot shortly after arriving at the site, for which he was rushed to the Covenant Medical Center in Levelland, where he was pronounced dead.
Three other officers were injured and taken to a Lubbock hospital. Two of them were in critical condition, according to the Texas Association of Justices of the Peace and Agents cited by Fox News.
As a precaution, they closed the hospital near the site of the shooting
Covenant Health in Levelland was the hospital where SWAT Team Sergeant Josh Bartlett was transported for treatment along with the other injured officers. Sergeant Bartlett died in the emergency room when doctors tried to save his life.
By order of the police authorities, the Covenant Health hospital was closed to free circulation and only officers of the different corporations related to the shooting in Levelland, Texas could enter.
