Mexican actor Toño Mauri ‘broke’ into tears when remembering the ‘miracle’ of his recovery, during the first interview he gave to Dr. Juan Rivera after leaving the hospital, where he spent months fighting the coronavirus, where he also confessed that he still has medical complications such as not being able to walk.

The interview led by Dr. Juan Rivera began with an ‘unrecognizable’ Toño Mauri recounting the first day he visited the hospital, revealing that he never imagined he was fighting the coronavirus for so long.

Toño Mauri could never imagine what he would face

«I thought I was going to go to the hospital and that that same day I was returning home,» said Toño with a hoarse voice and making an effort to speak: «That’s where this story that just ended began.» After saying these words, on the screen it was possible to see a photograph of the actor smiling, surrounded by medical tubes and while being held by nurses.

The coronavirus ‘destroyed his lungs’

«The virus directly attacked my lungs, it damaged them a lot,» Mauri said before noting that his only «hope» was to get a lung transplant.

The interview became extremely emotional when Toño Mauri «broke down in tears» when he told Dr. Juan Rivera that he could only think about his children, his wife Carla Alemán and his family.

«I told the doctor that it doesn’t matter what I had to do … from then on I don’t remember anything until I woke up from the coma,» he said through tears and with a broken voice. To see the video give click here.

Reveal the ‘journey’ to receive new lungs

Toño Mauri continued recounting the journey he overcame to receive the double lung transplant that would ‘save’ his life and recalled that he traveled by helicopter to the hospital and once again his voice broke, revealing that he was very excited to see his sons.

«And I did it and God was with me always,» said Mauri, overwhelmed by tears, and later pointed out that he asked God to ‘accompany’ him in his struggle. «My God, give me your hand, don’t let go of me and come with me,» were the requests of the Mexican actor.

Mauri, what left the facilities Just before Valentine’s Day, she claimed to feel “something that told her that everything was going to be okay”, ten days after this, according to her moving account, she received the lungs she needed.

The actor revealed that one night his wife Carla had been told that due to internal bleeding, he would not survive. «Suddenly they spoke to him and told him that he was not going to spend the night.»

The next day «they spoke to (Carla) to tell her that they did not know what had happened, but that I was normal,» he said deeply moved, while images of his departure from the hospital could be seen while he was applauded by the staff.

Later, Dr. Juan Rivera asked him about how he felt upon leaving the hospital and revealed that he constantly thought that «every night was the last», while short videos of his stay in the facility appeared, where the staff sang Christmas carols and they gave him gifts.

Approaching the end of the emotional interview, Mauri recounted the special moment when he left the hospital. «When I was fired from the hospital, that moment I will never forget,» he said again on the verge of tears.

In addition, he explained that the gift he received from the staff was a letter signed by all those who were attending to him. «I saw them as angels,» he said with a broken voice.

«I am very happy to wake up every day, to see the light, to see what I love most, to be alive,» said Toño Mauri a few days after leaving the hospital, who pointed out that although he still has medical complications such as not being able to walking, expect the physical issues to heal over time.

The interview ends with Mauri calling on his followers to take care of themselves to avoid coronavirus infections, such as the one that led him to fight for months. «I am very, very happy to be alive,» he concluded.

The moving talk with Dr. Juan Rivera even led Karla Martínez, host of Despierta América, to have a broken voice and to be on the verge of tears when commenting on Mauri’s ‘miracle’ with the coronavirus.
