Two young Hispanics and an African American were arrested in Houston on charges of participating in an illegal sports car race.

Rolando Macías, 19, Illsen Urrutia, 19, and Yakemah Siverand, 24, were arrested by the Houston Police Department (HPD) in the middle of a illegal racing at high speed.

Siverand is an American football player for the Las Vegas Raiders on the National Football League (NFL) and, as of this writing, the team has not released a statement regarding his arrest.

The three boys were arrested on Sunday, February 21, 2021, when they were competing against each other in a race on Beltway 8 near the corner of Lockwood Drive, at more than 100 miles per hour in their sports cars.

Two other vehicles participating in the race on Beltway 8, in the north of the Houston metropolitan area, were not stopped by HPD patrols due to the speed at which they were going.

The three boys are already detained in the prison of the Harris County and face the charges of reckless driving, and attempt to evade arrest.

The crimes they face are recorded in the Texas State Penal Code as crimes of medium danger. However, they could cause your driver’s license to be suspended for at least two years.

In Houston, illegal racing on city roads, and even on neighborhood streets, has become an endemic problem that has even left other innocent motorists killed in accidents.

Arturo Acevedo, head of HPD, indicated in a community meeting that solving the problem of illegal racing in the city is one of his priorities.

The head of HPD explained in a talk called March on Crime (March of Crime), at the headquarters of the corporation, that its agents will not only put drivers in jail but will seek to have their cars seized.

Macías, Urrutia and Siverand will face their criminal proceedings before Judge Ramona Franklin de la 338th Criminal District Court in Harris County.

Judge Franklin set the three detainees on a bond of $ 2,500 to face their trial in freedom. However, of the three so far only Siverand was the only one who paid it and would be released from jail this Tuesday, February 23.

Yakemah Siverand, 24, is a cornerback with the NFL Raiders and could lose his career as a professional athlete.

Within the conditions for them to enjoy bail, Judge Franklin warned that none of the three men can leave Harris County and they must be randomly tested for drugs and alcohol.

Deadly race

The agents of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), also in the greater Houston area, have created a force of agents just to combat illegal racing in the city.

Also on the night of Sunday, February 21, 2021, those HCSO agents arrested Andrew Mock, 22, who by participating in an illegal race in northwest Houston with his Camaro caused the death of two people.

HCSO patrol officers responded to a report at 9:29 p.m. on the Northwest Freeway, known as 290, at the intersection of West Little York Street.

Illsen Urrutia, 19, is being held at the Harris County Jail on charges of a crime of moderate danger, but for which he could lose his license for participating in illegal races in Houston.

According to the case documents, consulted by MundoHispánico in Texas, Mock slammed his Chevrolet Camaro into the left side of a Chevrolet Malibu as they raced each other at more than 100 miles per hour.

The crash of the Camaro driven by Mock caused the Malibu to go off against a group of spectators who were watching the race, almost all teenagers, and two of them were killed by the impact of the vehicles.

The tragedy instantly killed Roger Glover, 35, a native of New Jersey, who arrived in Houston, Texas, to spend a few days on vacation with family and friends.

The HCSO reported that teens Decarerick Kennedy, 15, and Fabian Hoisington, 14, were struck by the cars and both were seriously injured at the scene.

The two boys were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment and by Tuesday afternoon, February 22, 2021, the HCSO revealed that the two boys had already died. Mock faces three counts of reckless manslaughter.
