The message was clear and forceful: “Texans should not be required to show proof of vaccination and reveal private health information just to get on with their daily lives. I issued an executive order banning government-required vaccine passports in Texas. Do not step on our personal freedoms ”.

The coronavirus vaccine passport is nothing more than a medical record that indicates whether the person has already been vaccinated against the virus or has tested positive or negative for it, which they consider inappropriate.

The signing of Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order prevents state agencies or political subdivisions from enforcing a “vaccine passport” requirement for the client or citizen to receive a service.

This is because in some countries, governments or health authorities require an official medical document that guarantees that visitors have already been vaccinated against the coronavirus and thus avoid the risk of further infections in their territories. The official state page explains that a “political subdivision” includes any entity of the county, municipality or school district, so the executive order is quite far-reaching and guarantees the free movement of Texans.

“Every day, Texans are returning to normal life as more people receive the safe and effective Covid-19 vaccine. But, as I’ve said all along, these vaccines are always voluntary and are never forced, ”said Governor Greg Abbott. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

But Governor Greg Abbott was more emphatic in his message to defend its inhabitants: “We will continue to vaccinate more Texans and protect public health, and we will do so without stepping on the personal freedoms of Texans.”

“The government should not require any Texan to show proof of vaccination and reveal private health information just to take a look at their daily life. That is why I have issued an Executive Order prohibiting government-mandated vaccine passports in Texas, ”he added. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

It was precisely last week that the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, did the same by banning vaccine passports, arguing that they put pressure on the personal freedom and decision-making of the inhabitants.

The order signed by Governor Greg Abbot also prohibits organizations that receive public funds from requiring clients to provide information on the status of the vaccine in order to receive any service or enter a place. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

So far, more than four million people have been vaccinated in the state of Texas, and almost double have received at least their first dose, so the campaign is well advanced and it is expected that it will not take long to complete the entire population.

Vaccine passports are currently produced to check the immunization status of people against covid-19 and thus give or not permission for inoculated people to travel, shop and dine more freely. But some Republicans see this as an intrusion on personal freedom and private healthcare options. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

Oppositions on the issue have also generated positions against among political actors in the United States, and one of those who ‘stepped into the ring’ of the statements was precisely the son of the former president, Donald Trump, Don.

He said that for Republicans who are not “aggressively” opposed to passports, “it may be time to find another career. This concept could be the greatest affront to our freedoms in recent history and if you don’t see that it is a problem ”. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

For his part, US President Joe Biden plans to advance by two weeks the deadline he set for states to make the coronavirus vaccine available to all adults, according to the AP news agency.

States are already gradually expanding the population pool eligible to receive the vaccine beyond the elderly and essential workers, but Biden will announce Tuesday that by April 19 all adults must be able to receive the inoculation, reported a source from the House White. The original deadline was May 1. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

Biden is also preparing to announce that since he became president, some 150 million doses have been administered to the population. That puts him on track to meet his goal of getting 200 million vaccinations by April 30, when he turns 100 in office. Filed Under: Texas Bans Vaccine Passports

Biden’s original goal was to apply 100 million inoculations in those first 100 days. The announcement about the advancement of the date is somewhat symbolic since many states were already shortening the deadline to before May 1.

Meanwhile, the battle to contain the devastation caused by the coronavirus in central California reaches the border with Mexico, where migrant workers heading north to harvest lettuce, broccoli, carrots and other crops are offered. the COVID-19 vaccine barely enters the United States.

California is vaccinating farm workers by looking for them where they live and where they work, protecting a population disproportionately hit by the virus. Activists say the campaign was slow to start, but gained momentum in recent weeks, as the number of available vaccines increases and mobile clinics emerge that go to farms and food processing plants.

Farmworkers are especially vulnerable because they are crowded together in dormitories and eat together as well. They often go to the fields in crowded vans or buses or work in processing plants also in close contact.
