The senator of the state of Texas Ted Cruz broke the silence after his trip to Mexico and assured that the media are “obsessed” with their vacations because they suffer from the “withdrawal of Trump”, reported Business Insider.

Senator Cruz is still under attack for traveling to Cancun last week as his constituents suffered from a deadly winter storm that left hundreds of thousands without electricity or running water in the state, The Associated Press reported.

The Republican senator appeared on Fox News “Hannity” Monday night and broke the silence regarding the criticized trip.

“I think the media is suffering from Trump’s withdrawal, where they have attacked Trump every day for four years, they don’t know what to do, so they became obsessed with me taking my girls to the beach,” said the senator .

When it was learned that Ted Cruz had left Texas to go on vacation to Mexico, the senator issued a statement defending his trip, explaining that he was trying to be a “good father.”

“Like millions of Texans, our family has also lost heat and electricity,” Cruz said in a statement last Thursday, with which he tried to silence criticism.

“With school canceled this week,” he argued, “our daughters asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good father, I flew with them last night and I’m flying back this afternoon (last Thursday), ”he continued.

And he defended that during that time he and his team were “in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas.”

Days before, during an interview with the Joe “Pags” Show program on a San Antonio (Texas) radio station, Cruz had urged Texans to stay at home and had assured that he felt lucky because at home, in Houston, the electricity had not been cut, reported the Efe news agency.

“Don’t take chances, keep your family safe and stay home and hug your children,” Cruz recommended.

The controversy erupted when a photograph of Cruz in the departure lounge of an airport began to circulate on Twitter, another taking a snack in the airfield room and another inside the plane, all apparently from Wednesday, February 17.

Also, Ted Cruz spoke on the conservative podcast ‘Ruthless’ and called his neighbors Houston’s “moron …” after text messages from his wife were leaked talking about the trip to Cancun, reported The Daily Beast.

“Here is a suggestion for you: don’t be idiots,” said the senator. “Let us treat each other as human beings, have some degree, a minimum of respect,” said the Republican senator.

Similarly, Cruz also indicated that those who have been bothered by his trip to Mexico “need to laugh a little, you know, relax.”
