The arrests were confirmed in a statement by the acting director of ICE, Patrick J. Lechleitner, on Thursday, February 1.

«These were some very bad individuals that we wanted to take off the streets,» Lechleitner said, highlighting the serious nature of the people who were targeted.

More than 100 of them were sex offenders, and are expected to face deportation proceedings.

The operation reflects a shift in immigration enforcement priorities under the Biden administration, which has come under fire from Republicans.

«Depending on what cities you go to, you know, like the New York’s and Miami’s, there’s — there’s a high volume so it’s taken a while to actually get people scheduled in but what we are doing is we’re leveraging technology,» Bible explained.

Despite law enforcement successes, the agency emphasized the need for more resources to continue its fight against all criminal noncitizens.

According to ICE statistics, 73,822 noncitizens with criminal records were arrested last year, underscoring the magnitude of the challenge facing the agency.
