Atlanta Braves win first game in the World Series inspired by Jorge Soler

(www.beisbolmundial.com) .- A swing by Jorge Soler propelled the Atlanta Braves to a spectacular start in the World Series.

In the lineup for the first time since a positive COVID-19 test, Soler became the first player to start a World Series with a home run and the Braves, despite the loss of pitcher Charlie Morton to a broken leg, silenced the Los Angeles. Houston Astros 6-2 Tuesday night in Game 1.

Fueled by strong bullpen effort, Adam Duvall’s two-run homer and a late sacrifice fly by Freddie Freeman, Atlanta’s men slipped in their first Series appearance since Chipper Jones and his Big Three Aces. rose in 1999.

«A lot of things happened very quickly,» said the Atlanta manager, Brian snitker.

All of the Atlanta starters ended up landing a hit and more than four hours later, this was the scene in his dugout: flamboyant outfielder Joc Pederson sipping a glass of red wine and smoking cigars with closer Will Smith.

That victory party lasted for a couple of minutes until a security guard came up and told them it was a smoke-free building.

Soler, who missed five playoff games after testing positive for the coronavirus, added an RBI in the second. And when Duvall hit a two-run home run, it was 5-0 and the Braves had made even more history in October – the only team to score in each of the first three innings of a World Series opener.

«I think we obviously got the bats out there early pretty well, and doing it on the road, kind of like the first nerves at bat getting out of the way, it’s great,» Atlanta player Duvall said.

It was the first stadium-packed World Series action since Game 7 in this same park in 2019, when a packed crowd turned up in silence after watching the Nationals pass Houston, Atlanta hopes to repeat history.

No team has won a World Series game in their own park since the Dodgers beat Boston in 18 innings in Game 3 of 2018. The visiting team won every game in 2019, and last year’s Series was played in a neutral site in Arlington, Texas.

Braves: After two good playoff starts, Fried faltered in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series at Dodger Stadium. With a shotgun opportunity, the Atlanta ace allowed five runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Astros: Urquidy was tagged by Boston over six runs in 1 2/3 innings in his previous start in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. He does have a postseason pedigree, though, pitching five scoreless innings as a rookie to beat Washington in Game 4 of the 2019 World Series.
