An accidental shooting occurred inside a Walmart store in Georgia after a man mishandled his gun and it went off. In the incident, apparently a single shot wounded him and three other people were injured too, police said.

The Lovejoy Police Department in Clayton County confirmed to WSB-TV that four people were injured Sunday, August 21, after a man mishandled his gun inside a Georgia Walmart and shot himself and three others in the shooting.

The officers who responded to the incident determined that Michael Walton, 29, had been negligent with his weapon when it was fired and the bullet hit him and three other victims, according to the local outlet.

All four people involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention, police confirmed to WSB-TV. Authorities added that «handling of the firearm was not performed with a reasonable standard of care,» noting that the firearm was loaded and unholstered at the time of the incident.

Michael Walton, who has already booked into the Clayton County Jail, will now be charged with reckless conduct for causing the accidental shooting at that Georgia Walmart due to mishandling of his gun, police said. WSB-TV did not detail what type of weapon he was carrying.

On this occasion, fortunately, no one was killed. Although the shooting was accidental, the person responsible was arrested and will face criminal charges, according to other media outlets that also reported the incident, including Fox 13 Memphis.

On the other hand, last month the authorities reported a shooting inside a busy Walmart sparked chaos and a stampede when customers ran after a violent fight that ended with gunshots broke out in the meat department.

The shooting occurred on Thursday, July 7, inside a Walmart store located in Riverdale, Georgia around 6:00 p.m. local time, according to local police, reported The Sun, who also mentioned that an argument in the meat section had led to the shooting.

Two men were involved in the dispute and one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire on the other, police said. The wounded man was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, while the gunman fled and had not been located at the time of the report.

Neither of the two men involved in the dramatic incident had been identified at the time, The Sun reported. An off-duty police officer who had been in the store at the time of the shooting immediately reported the situation after hearing the shots, local media 11Alive reported. And while there was a large police presence at the scene, Riverdale Police said the incident did not involve an active shooter.
