A strong earthquake of 7.1 magnitude on the Richter scale surprised Mexicans on Tuesday night, who took to the streets in fear to get to safety, just in the four year anniversary of an 8.2 magnitude earthquake that left a trail of destruction in its wake. An aftershock was felt just minutes later, but not as strong as the first one.
The National Seismological Service (SSN) initially reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.9, whose epicenter was located 14 km southeast of Acapulco, Guerrero at 8:47 p.m. local time in the Mexican capital, where the earthquake was also felt with great intensity. Minutes later they corrected the magnitude to 7.1 degrees.

Following the strong 7.1-degree earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for the coast of Guerrero, Mexico. Tsunami waves are expected within 300 km of the epicenter, located southeast of Acapulco, according to the Geoscientific Network of Chile that wrote on its official Twitter account.
