Watch out for severe weather. A cold front moving toward the East Coast region could derail some plans this Sunday, as showers and thunderstorms are likely from the Gulf Coast to New England, it reported. Fox Weather this morning.

When storms form, some could be severe, with gusty winds and hail as possible impacts. The area with the greatest threat of seeing organized activity extends from Pennsylvania to Maine, where meteorologists do not rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado being recorded, the aforementioned medium reported.

The same system that is triggering the storm threat produced a deadly tornado in northern Michigan on Friday that damaged several homes and businesses and left thousands without power. Forecasters rated the tornado EF-3 and believed winds reached 150 mph in Gaylord, Michigan.

According to the Fox Weather report, May is typically the busiest month for tornadoes, so it’s not uncommon for there to be a severe weather threat for several days at this time of year. On average, 294 tornadoes form during the last month of spring.

Although the threat of severe weather exists from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast this Sunday, the greatest risk is centered on parts of northeastern Pennsylvania into the Northeast and New England. That means people from Scranton to Bangor, Maine, should keep an eye on the weather.

Flash flooding is also possible in areas where thunderstorms appear on Sunday. But the most significant risk is along the Gulf Coast and in the Southeast and parts of the Mississippi and Tennessee valleys, Fox Weather warned.

The chance for strong and severe storms will return to Texas and the southern plains at the start of the work week. Depending on where there is the most instability on Monday, thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail and damaging winds, the report said.

Cities like Dallas, Waco, Austin, San Antonio and San Angelo will be in the threat zone for major storms. And the threat of storms will move slightly east on Tuesday, May 24 and could affect parts of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas, Fox Weather reported.
