It was during an interview with Cristina Saralegui in 1995, where Abraham Quintanilla, Selena’s manager and father, confessed that one of his big mistakes after the singer’s death allowing her coffin to remain open during the funeral. He said that is one of the worst decisions he has ever made.

The only reason he left the coffin open was because people attending the funeral kept asking him if Selena’s body was really there. This bothered him, so he chose to open the coffin so they could see the artist’s corpse at her funeral.

“I decided to open the coffin because the day that Selena’s body was there, people were in line passing by, and several ladies began to claim that it was not true, that she was not dead. So, I decided to open it to prove the truth and it was one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made,” Abraham said in the interview.

He even said that the fans took several photographs and then used the images to make a profit, a situation that upset his family: “They took photos, then we saw them on t-shirts, magazines, wherever they wanted. If I had to do it again, I would never do it,” he said at the time.
