US authorities recall a popular product due to risk of death in children. The hazardous product is a series of teethers that babies usually chew on to soothe their gums.

This week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) of United States reported that the Bebe au Lait brand was voluntarily recalling 12 models of wooden teethers because they posed a choking hazard to little ones.

“In cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Bebe au Lait, out of an abundance of caution, is conducting a voluntary safety recall of all wooden teethers due to a choking hazard,” the company wrote on its Twitter account.

They also detailed that the problem is that «the string that connects the beads on the teethers can come untied, released.» Given the risk of choking for babies, the company Bebe au Lait has chosen to withdraw its products from the market in the United States and also in Canada.

Why are the teethers dangerous?

According to a CPSC report “wooden teethers” could be a risky item for children because “the string that connects the beads in the teethers can come loose, dislodging the beads and posing a choking hazard to young children.”

They also detailed that the company began withdrawing the children’s product last Wednesday, February 23, after they received at least six reports that the string of the teether had come untied, releasing the beads that can be dangerous if a child puts them in their mouth, according to the NY Journal.

Because the product may be dangerous to children, the company is asking customers who purchased the teethers, which could come in a variety of shapes, to immediately stop using them, destroy them, and contact them for a refund.

The recall includes 12 teether models that measure approximately 3″ x 3″ x 1″. They also have the name of the company «Bebe au Lait» stamped and one of these date codes: 02-2019, 10-2020 or 03-2021.

Families who bought this type of teether will surely wonder: What do I do now? The first thing consumers should do is «immediately remove the recalled teethers from the reach of children,» US authorities warn.

The next thing would be to “contact Bebe au Lait for instructions on how to receive a full refund or store credit.” Another option they offer consumers is to “complete a form for a store credit at www.bebeaulait.com/recall.”

The authorities explained that these Bebe au Lait teethers were manufactured in China and imported into the United States. They were sold in “Target and various other stores across the country. “ They were also sold “online at Bebeaulait.com, Zulily.com and other websites.”

The product costs about $15 dollars, which would be the approximate amount of the refund that customers would receive. In order to claim a refund, the buyer must destroy the teether and take a picture of it when it is unusable and attach it to the claim. You should then dispose of the destroyed teether.
