Pedro Alcocer, from Galveston Police Department (GPD), was arrested on a domestic violence charge.

Alcocer, captain of the GPD, was detained by agents of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO, for its acronym in English), in Texas, accused of having beaten a member of his family.

However, to protect the identity of the victim, the judge ordered that some of the documents of the case in the police arrest are not available for public consultation.

Galveston, the city in which the events took place, is on the island of the same name in the southeast of the Houston metropolitan area and has a population of 50,000 inhabitants, of which 30 out of 100 are Hispanic.

Pedro Alcocer, 58, attacked a woman at home during an incident that occurred on Sunday, January 31, 2021, in Galveston. The incident address is not disclosed in the case documents.

The woman, after the alleged attack by the police officer Pedro Alcocer, escaped from the house and went to a hospital to file a complaint against the man, for the attacks that began on Friday, January 29.

A Galveston County judge, seeing the serious injuries that the woman was suffering from the beating, issued an arrest warrant for the man and informed his superiors to the GPD.

GCSO agents had to comply with the judge’s order against their colleague Pedro Alcocer and went to look for him at his home and the man surrendered to the authorities without offering resistance.

The judge handling the case ordered Captain Pedro Alcocer to hand over his GPD police badge, his charge weapon, and told him that he could not get within 200 yards of the woman he allegedly hit.

When Captain Pedro Alcocer was detained, the GPD issued a statement in which it said that its officer was being placed on administrative leave, without pay, while his legal situation is resolved in a trial.

The charge that the police officer Pedro Alcocer faces is that of aggravated assault with injuries to a member of his family and according to the Texas State Penal Code, carries a penalty of two to 20 years in prison for whoever is found guilty in a trial.

After spending 24 hours in jail, Police Officer Pedro Alcocer was released from the Galveston County Jail on a $ 5,000 bond to face trial at liberty.

Alcocer was promoted to the position of captain of the GPD mounted patrol in 2017 and at the head of that unit, he was responsible for patrolling and surveillance in the various rural areas and secluded beaches that the island of Galveston has.

In Captain Pedro Alcocer’s service record there are no records of any serious incident for which he has been separated from his position. The judge handling the policeman’s case has not determined when his first hearing will be.
