  • Pine-Sol approved to remove coronavirus from surfaces, says EPA.
  • Clorox issued a press release regarding the disinfectant.
  • There is a procedure to follow to make it really effective against the virus.

Pine-Sol Original Multi-Surface Cleaner received approval from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “as suitable to kill the virus SARS-Cov-2, which causes COVID-19, on hard non-porous surfaces, ”the Clorox Company announced in a Press release about your cleaning product.

And that’s good news, as Clorox wipes are in short supply due to increased demand. Americans use them en masse to clean frequently used surfaces and rid them of the virus. Now, the same company is adding another effective household cleaner to the list of products to combat the spread of the pandemic.

The press release explains that tests were carried out in a laboratory outside the company, therefore neutral in terms of sales interests, and it was shown that Pine-Sol disinfectant is effective against the virus with a contact time of 10 minutes on hard non-porous surfaces.

“With a long history as a powerful cleaner and disinfectant, Pine-Sol® now offers families who have trusted the brand for generations the protection they need right now against the spread of SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes COVID19” said Chris Hyder, vice president and general manager of The Clorox Company’s cleaning division.

“We hope that this new statement on Pine-Sol® will increase access to disinfectants that can help prevent the spread of COVID19.”

How to use Pine-Sol correctly against COVID-19?

One way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to disinfect common surfaces throughout your home. For
To disinfect against SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, apply Pine-Sol® Original Multi-Surface Cleaner undiluted with a clean cloth or sponge on hard, non-porous surfaces.

Dampen the surface, let it rest for 10 minutes and then rinse. For heavily soiled surfaces, pre-cleaning is required first to remove excess dirt.

The EPA cautions that when using any of the listed disinfectants, follow all label directions “for safe and effective use,” which includes the amount of time the surface must be visibly wet with the product. How does the EPA know that List N products work with SARS-CoV-2?

EPA expects List N products to eliminate SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, because:

  • Demonstrate efficacy against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (COVID-19)
  • Demonstrate efficacy against a pathogen that is harder to kill than SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
  • Demonstrate efficacy against a different human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

EPA expects all List N products to be effective against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) when used according to label directions.

I want to use a product to kill SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) but it is not on List N. Is it effective against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)?

First, make sure the product is not on List N. Learn how by checking on the page, “I can’t say if the product I’m interested in is on the list or not. Can you help me?”

If you want to use a product that is not on the N list, look for an EPA registered “human coronavirus” product that is listed as a target pathogen on the product label, then look for the EPA registration number on the label to confirm that the product is registered by the EPA and follow the directions on the label when using it.

Products with animal coronavirus claims are generally not included on List N because there may not be enough data available to confirm whether these products will work against human coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. .

If a product does not have an EPA registration number, then the EPA has not reviewed any data on whether the product will kill public health pathogens such as viruses. EPA will not add products to List N that do not have an EPA registration number because they do not have data to show that they will work and can be used safely.
