- Obamacare reopened enrollment for Americans in need of health coverage amid pandemic
- “Health care is a right, not a privilege,” said President Biden
- Nearly 15 million uninsured could benefit from Obamacare, according to the Kaiser Foundation
The Obamacare Federal Health Insurance Marketplace will be open today through May 15 for a special enrollment period as part of the Biden Administration’s efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
Enrollment for Obamacare will be open to all who qualify or want to change their insurance policy.
According to the Kaiser Foundation, nearly 15 million uninsured people could benefit from the new Obamacare enrollments.
President Joe Biden indicated that the purpose of the Obamacare special enrollments is to help Americans who need health insurance access health care, reported CBS News.
“Health care is a right, not a privilege, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that all Americans have access to the affordable, quality health care they deserve,” President Biden said in a statement.
“That is especially critical in the midst of a deadly pandemic that has already claimed the lives of more than 470,000 of our fellow citizens and infected more than one in 12 additional Americans, often with devastating consequences for their health,” the president said. .
The special enrollment period that will last exactly three months will allow Americans who need health insurance to enroll in Obamacare for coverage through Healthcare.gov.
“We will emerge from this crisis if we take care of each other and work together to expand coverage, lower costs, and make sure that health care is truly a right for all Americans,” the president said in late January.
In addition to the special enrollment period, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced last Friday that they will launch an education campaign starting today where they will focus on promoting health insurance enrollment and explaining the assistance available to those who qualify.
“President Biden was clear: we need to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and give more Americans access to health care, especially during this pandemic, which has further demonstrated the importance of having adequate coverage,” said the Acting Secretary from Health and Human Services, Norris Cochran is a statement.
“For President Biden, this is personal. He believes that every American has the right to the peace of mind of knowing that he has access to cheap and quality medical care, ”said a statement distributed by the White House.
Created under the Health Care Law a Low Cost Also known as “Obamacare,” the marketplaces offer taxpayer-funded health insurance regardless of a person’s medical history or pre-existing conditions.
