Tragic start to Saturday: A shooting in New York has so far left two people dead and 14 injured.
Citing law enforcement authorities, the news agency AP reported on the morning of this Saturday that two people died and 14 were injured in the early morning at a party in a courtyard in Rochester, New York.
A man and a woman between the ages of 18 and 22 were killed in the shooting, Acting Police Chief Mark Simmons told reporters. The injured were taken to two hospitals and neither suffered life-threatening injuries, the official added, according to AP.
“This is a true tragedy of epic proportions,” said Simmons near the scene of the shooting, which seemed to extend for at least a block, the agency said.
The New York shooting came after the city’s police department was shaken by the suffocation death of Daniel Prude.
A video recorded in March and released by Prude’s family on September 4 showed the man – naked, with shackles on his hands and a hood over his head – as one officer pushes his face against the floor and another presses his back with a knee. The policemen held him for about two minutes until he stopped breathing. A week later, life support was removed, the AP recalled.
On Monday, Mayor Lovely Warren took aim at Police Chief La’Ron Singletary, claiming that he initially misled her about the circumstances of Prude’s death.
The shooting on Saturday did not seem to be related to the death in March.
Officers responding to the shooting notices encountered “approximately 100 people” fleeing the New York area of the shooting, Simmons said. Before the calls, the police were not aware of the celebration of the party.
Police did not arrest anyone, Simmons added, noting that it is too early to determine if there were multiple shooters, the AP said.
For its part, ABC News He detailed that the shooting occurred around 12:25 in the morning at a party held in the yard of a house on Pennsylvania Avenue, in Rochester, New York.
A witness told the media WHAM that the shooting caused noises “like the Vietnam War,” according to ABC News.
Before police officers responded to the report of the New York shooting, they did not receive a complaint call for the mass gathering at the party, ABC News said.
New York: Shooting on the east side of Buffalo leaves 5 people shot

Until then, it was not known if the two shootings were linked.
Buffalo police urged anyone with information on either shootings to contact them by calling or texting the department’s confidential information line at (716) 847-2255.
