Sijifredo Montemayor tried to escape from the authorities in Texas and fled to Nuevo Laredo, in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, where he was captured by federal agents from that country and handed over to the US Marshals.

Federal agents transferred Sijifredo Montemayor on Friday, February 5, 2021, from Laredo to the Bexar County jail, in San Antonio, accused of the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm against a public servant.

According to a source from MundoHispánico in Texas, who participated in the arrest of Sijifredo Montemayor, and who asked not to be identified in public, the man was helped to escape to Mexico by several members of his family.

For his part, Wilfredo Montemayor remained a fugitive until noon on Saturday, January 6, when the Gulf Coast Task Force team, an elite US Marshals team, found and arrested him in San Antonio.

Federal agents discovered that Wilfredo Montemayor was in hiding, waiting for the right moment to escape. The authorities defined the brothers as a pair of very dangerous criminals.

According to the arrest warrant for the Montemayor brothers, consulted by MundoHispánico, the brothers ambushed Officer Joey Sepúlveda.

On Wednesday, February 3, 2021, Officer Sepúlveda, an 18-year veteran with the Balcones Heights Police Department (BHPD), attended a report about a Hispanic couple suspected of wanting to rob.

Balcones Heights, the city in which the events occurred, is a population of just over 3,000 inhabitants in the northwest of the San Antonio metropolitan area.

Officer Sepúlveda appeared at 2:00 p.m. at the SOL Apartments housing complex, at 6945 West Interstate 10, and saw a car with two Hispanic men, one sitting in front of the wheel and the other in the back seat. .

Sijifredo Montemayor, 30, escaped to Mexico to avoid justice in Texas, but federal agents from that country captured him in Nuevo Laredo.

Sepúlveda stopped his patrol next to the two men’s car and asked them to identify themselves, as some residents of the housing complex said he was loitering around the place and they apparently did not live there.

The Hispanic man in the back seat suddenly got out of the car and pulled out a pistol with which he began shooting at patrolman Sepúlveda.

Meanwhile the other man, from the driver’s seat, also pulled out a pistol and fired several shots at the officer. The entire incident was recorded on the cameras that the officer wore in his uniform and that of the patrol.

Officer Sepúlveda ran, despite being wounded, behind a car that was parked to protect himself from the shots and managed to pull out his weapon, with which he shot the driver of the vehicle several times.

Seeing that Sepúlveda had wounded his partner, the other man went behind the policeman and fired as many shots as he could from a short distance, some of them remained in their bulletproof vest, before escaping.
