Kevin Zavala was arrested in Houston on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm in a shooting In the city center.

Zavala, 17, was arrested by the Houston Police Department (HPD), in Texas, charged with the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

According to Zavala’s arrest warrant, consulted by MundoHispánico In Texas, the boy is allegedly responsible for a shooting in which another 16-year-old was injured.

On Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 10:10 a.m. on the frigid night, a 16-year-old boy walking down McKinney Street caught the attention of neighbors and passersby because he was injured.

One of the people who was walking down that street called the emergency number to report the incident of the boy who had several bullets in his right arm.

HPD patrols appeared in front of 1501 McKinney Street, where the injured young man was, in front of the popular Discovery Green Park.

The boy, whose identity will not be revealed, told the police that he was walking on the sidewalk when suddenly from a moving car a young Hispanic man pulled out a gun and shot him several times.

The injuries to the young man’s arm did not put his life at risk and when he spoke with the authorities he gave them a clear description of the vehicle from which he was shot and the characteristics of the boy who fired the shots.

After he gave his testimony, the wounded man was transported by paramedics from the Houston Fire Department (HFD) to treat you for your injuries.

The Discovery Green Park area is a gathering place for Houston families on the weekends, so the shooting, at a time when the park is usually crowded, alarmed visitors.

After the wounded boy gave the description of the alleged attacker and the car he was traveling in, all HPD patrols covering the downtown Houston area had the suspect’s report.

HPD is covered by agents in cars, on bikes, and on foot in crowded areas such as Discovery Green Park.

After the attack, a patrolman making his rounds in the center of the city spotted a car similar to the one described by the witness during the shooting and, as a precaution, called for reinforcements to stop it.

Within minutes, the car of the alleged perpetrator was surrounded by HPD patrols and the agents discovered that three young Hispanics were traveling in the vehicle on La Branch Street, three blocks from Discovery Green Park.

When reviewing the car, the agents found two of them drugs, the report does not specify what type of narcotics, and they were arrested on the charge of possession of prohibited substances.

The driver of the car identified himself as Kevin Zavala and the boy was found among his clothes a pistol of a caliber that matched the shots that the young man who was walking in front of the park had received.

Kevin Zavala was taken into custody and his case was turned over to HPD Major Assault Division officers for investigation. The young man, in addition to the weapon, carried thousands of dollars in cash and could not explain where it came from.

Zavala was taken to jail before Judge Ana Martínez de la Crininal Court District 179 in Harris County to face his criminal process, as an adult, despite being a minor due to the seriousness of the accusation.

The agents of the Division of Major Assaults continue to investigate the case against Kevin Zavala because they are very interested in knowing the origin of the weapon with which he allegedly wounded the other young man and the possession of so much cash.

According to Texas State Penal Code The charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, like the one Zavala faces, carries a sentence of 2 to 20 years in jail for anyone found guilty of that crime in a trial.

Until the time of writing this story, Zavala was still being held in the Harris County They investigate the gun they found to find out if the gun has been related to other violent crimes.
