In March, a Texas man was found guilty of storming the US Capitol with a gun. It was a historic victory for federal prosecutors in the first trial of hundreds of cases stemming from the January 6 assault on the Capitol.

The jurors deliberated for about three hours and convicted the accused on all charges. The verdict may be a reference point for many other cases related to the Capitol riot. Now, Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former president Donald Trump, has decided to speak with the committee.

Ivanka Trump, daughter and adviser to former US President Donald Trump, will testify on Tuesday behind closed doors. She will speak to the Congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021 assault on the Capitol, a source from the Congress said, according to the EFE agency.

In January, the committee sent a letter to Ivanka Trump asking her to provide information about her father’s activities before and during January 6, 2021. That’s when Republican supporters stormed Congress to prevent the certification of the election of current President, Democrat Joe Biden.

As detailed then by the committee, Ivanka Trump was in the West Wing of the White House with her father when the assault happened. Her appearance comes after prolonged negotiations with the committee, the EFE news agency pointed out.

Among other things, the committee wants to ask Ivanka Trump about a conversation she witnessed between her father and then-Vice President Mike Pence. Pence was under pressure to intervene in the congressional legislative process and prevent Biden’s victory from being certified. Filed Under: Trump Daughter Testifies Capitol.

Other witnesses have provided information about that conversation to the committee and lawmakers want to see if Ivanka Trump can give them more details. The committee also wants to ask her about her father’s reaction to the attack and why it took him so long to ask his followers to go home. Two hours after she urged him to do so, he eventually posted a video asking them to leave on Twitter, according to the committee’s letter.

That letter asked Ivanka to testify voluntarily and doesn’t legally obligate her to do so. Jared Kushner, her husband and Trump adviser, testified last week for six hours before the committee investigating the attack. An anonymous source present in the room told NBC that he was “cooperative and friendly,” according to The Associated Press.

Ivanka’s decision to testify is important to the commission, which has been trying to interview her since late January. The commission has carried out some 800 interviews. The interview on Tuesday with Donald Trump’s daughter and former advisor is particularly impactful.

According to the AP, her statement, like those of others, will be made behind closed doors. Public hearings are scheduled to begin in the middle of this year. The people who spoke about the interview did so on the condition of anonymity.

Lawmakers have said they want to know what Ivanka Trump knew about her father’s efforts to reject the election results. This includes a phone call they say she witnessed, where the former president pressured Vice President Mike Pence. They also want to ask her about concerns that have been expressed by Pence aides, lawmakers and the White House legal office.

According to what was reported by AP, less than a week ago her husband, Jared Kushner, testified before the nine-member panel in a virtual meeting that lasted more than six hours. Commission members have said his testimony was helpful and that they hope to fill in any remaining gaps with Ivanka Trump’s statements. Filed Under: Trump Daughter Testifies Capitol.
