Reports of a shooting at Woodbridge High School in Virginia sparks fear among the student population. Officers from the Prince Williams County Police Department went to the scene after emergency services were called regarding possible gunfire, according to several media reports, including The Sun.
Police confirmed that several officers were sent to the scene. They reported that the first thing they did was secure the area. They also said there was no evidence, at least initially, of a shooting at the scene, but that they would continue to search the area to rule out any danger to those present, as the news sparked fear on campus.
WERE THE STUDENTS AT RISK?
Later, it was confirmed that there was no active threat. However, authorities chose to close the school as a preventive measure to avoid further threats of this nature. Additionally, Lake Ridge Middle School was also closed for a police investigation since the school was near the scene of the alleged shooting.
According to police reports, Prince Williams County officers were, “conducting a methodical search of the building.” Videos showing a large police mobilization on campus with armed officers began to circulate on social media.
WAS IT A FALSE ALARM?
The mobilization soon caught the attention of the people in the community who were advised to shelter in place as a precaution while the agents searched the campus for the alleged shooter. Although they had received a report of gunfire, ultimately police did not find anything.
At 12:45 pm, the Prince Williams County Police Department announced that, upon searching the building, they had concluded that there was no evidence of a shooting. Given this, authorities confirmed that the incident “appeared to be a false alarm”. Almost 2,700 students attend Woodbridge High School. Filed Under: High School Shooting
Report of High School Shooting: WHAT DID AUTHORITIES DO?
Protocol followed by authorities dictates that every call must be taken seriously. The scene must be secured and the designated area must be thoroughly searched to find the alleged shooter. This was done in the appropriate manner and in accordance with police processes.
In addition, for its part, the school asked all students to take shelter as they waited for the police to arrive. Hundreds were sent home in the event that the danger was real. However, it ended up being a false alarm that not only scared students at the school but also residents in the surrounding area.
POLICE SEE AN ARMED WOMAN AND IT ENDS IN TRAGEDY
This event involving the authorities took place at the beginning of this past week. It was confirmed that Tennessee police shot and killed a woman who pointed a gun at an agent, authorities reported. An officer from the Monteagle Police Department went to a market on Highway 41 after receiving a report that a person was armed, according to a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Preliminary reports indicate there was a confrontation and Angie McFarland, 50, pointed a gun at the officer, who shot her, the bureau said. McFarland was pronounced dead at the scene, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of Chattanooga. Bureau agents are independently investigating to determine the events that led to the shooting, according to the statement. At the moment, no further information was released.
