Days before, Estela Benito had been hospitalized due to a stroke. Unfortunately, due to restrictions by the Covid-19, Miriam and the rest of the family were unable to see her after she was admitted to the hospital.

A week after she was admitted, the relatives received a call notifying them that the woman had died from coronavirus. In view of the fact that she did not have the virus before and that she had been admitted for other reasons, the family simply assumed that she had been infected within the facilities of the medical center.

Miriam, a woman originally from Mar del Plata, Argentina, her husband and other family members were completely taken aback when they discovered that they had prepared a funeral for the wrong person. NY Journal.

This was obviously a serious mistake, so the family immediately contacted the hospital where the old woman had been admitted for a stroke and informed them that they had been given someone else’s body.

How did this error occur?

After the call from the hospital where they were notified of Estela’s death and the family assuming that she had been infected at the medical center, they proceeded to deliver the body for her funeral.

However, when the hospital delivered Estela’s alleged body to them, they were prohibited from opening it due to the imminent risk of contagion of coronavirus that existed. That is why they were unable to pick up on the confusion quickly.

Miriam and the family still had one question to answer: Where was Estela? To their surprise, the hospital staff not only apologized for the terrible mistake, but informed them that Estala was still alive!

The health center spent hours searching and investigating the woman’s whereabouts, until they finally found her. Faced with the mistake, they explained that it had been an “administrative problem” that caused Estela to be confused with the other deceased patient.
