Some members of the Guinea team were still at the team’s hotel in Conakry with players who were unable to leave the West African nation after the borders closed.
Guinean players receive help from their clubs but not even then can leave
Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow was trying to make plans for its forward Francois Kamano to return to Russia, it said, but had been unable to get him out. He was at home and communicating with the club staff.
“Due to the difficult political situation in Guinea at the present time, all routes are blocked in and out of the country where our player is located,” Lokomotiv said in a statement.
Guinea all chaos due to the revolt of the military
Mutinous soldiers led by the former commander of the Guinea special forces unit detained to President Alpha Conde on Sunday after loud gunfire was heard near the presidential palace in Conakry.
On Monday they mobilized to tighten their grip on power by ordering Conde’s presidential guard forces to join the junta. Concerns were raised about a possible backlash if the larger army refused to accept the new military rulers.
Players found out at breakfast that something was happening
Guinea defender Issiaga Sylla, who plays for Toulouse, told French daily L’Equipe that the players found out something was happening while meeting for breakfast at the hotel on Sunday morning.
“The coach came to see us to tell us there was a blow,” Sylla told L’Equipe. “Soldiers were called in to secure our hotel.” The team’s hotel was about 10 minutes from the airport “but we can’t move,” Sylla said.
Selection of Morocco if he could leave the country
