Hispanic entrepreneur seeks to teach

children to love Spanish through reading.

Many Hispanics who come to the United States come with suitcases loaded with dreams that in addition to looking for a job that supports them financially, they want to leave their mark on others by doing some business or activity that is of benefit or benefit to the whole family.

María Alejandra Bastidas, VP of Digital Content at MundoHispánico, took the initiative to create the show “Emprendedores Together” through her Instagram account @itsmariaalejandrabastidas with whom you seek to interview entrepreneurs Hispanics residing in Atlanta and thus make their projects known.

“With my entrepreneurship project I seek to help people like you and me who come to this country wanting to start a business forward, who come to write their books, to do their projects, to give their courses and all of them we are going to continue supporting throughout this year ”, said María Alejandra Bastidas.

One of these female entrepreneurs participating in the “Emprendedores Together” space is Ximena Montilla, author of the children’s book «Soy la arepa», a material that talks about the Venezuelan arepa.

«I think this book was necessary because there are many of us who love the arepa but were unaware of the history of the arepa, and the controversy over who invented the arepa,» Montilla said.

For Ximena the most important thing in the creation of this project were her children because her purpose has been to preserve Spanish, that this language is as important to them as it is to her.

During the conversation on “Emprendedores Together” María Alejandra told Ximena that getting children to maintain the Spanish language is a challenge in the United States, especially when they have more than two children. ”With the first one, more or less He succeeds, but with the second or third, and by the third mine he already said I don’t speak Spanish ”.

Ximena Montilla was born in Caracas, Venezuela and came to the United States five years ago. He teaches in Special Education, mentioning Learning Difficulties and Intellectual Development Disorders. He has a 24-year career dedicated to teaching.

According to Ximena, the idea is that this situation of children maintaining the Spanish language is not a struggle, and that to achieve this it must be a necessity.

“When I got here I realized that there were so many families who decided not to teach Spanish and that the child adapted to speaking only English, and he will learn Spanish. But Spanish will learn it does not happen, Spanish must be taught and it must be given space at home ”, highlighted Montilla.

Likewise, Ximena says that she came to the United States with three children who had learned English because she taught them in Spain. «My goal was for them to maintain Spanish and also English.»

“If I have this panorama of so many people and professionals who decide not to teach Spanish, this is a challenge and I love it. So I have to see how I did in Spain to teach them English. How I learned English while in Venezuela, how I learned Spanish at home even though it was a Spanish-speaking country ”.

And that’s when Ximena Montilla found the answer. «I learned through love, affection, art, traditions, I learned dancing, in the theater, I learned by reading, reading and reading.»

At this moment, Montilla is inspired to create a company that is dedicated to teaching these families to teach Spanish at home and «so that those children who have not learned Spanish and who are already adults like me, can speak Spanish.»
