- A 29-year-old man received $ 3.9 million in PPP loans fraudulently
- Made the application for various companies with false statements
- The luxurious Lamborghini Huracán and 3.4 million dollars were confiscated
American David T Hines thought he had gotten away with buying a luxurious Lamborghini Huracán that was surely among his most cherished dreams.
But the gamble went badly and expensively for him after it was discovered that he had used part of a loan from the United States Government’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) granted by the COVID-19 emergency, to acquire the car sports and other personal things.
A report The United States Department of Justice indicated that David T Hines admitted to diverting federal funds.
The resource was to cover payroll expenses as part of a financial aid that the State approved last year.
Likewise, the Department of Justice detailed that David T Hines pleaded guilty to obtaining 3.9 million dollars in loans from the PPP fraudulently and deceiving the Government.
The official statement indicates that of the 3.9 million dollars awarded to David T Hines, 318 thousand dollars were invested for the purchase of the Lamborghini Huracán. Likewise, the 29-year-old American accepted that he did what he could to get hold of the PPP loan.
He made financial requests on behalf of several companies, which were approved by financial entities, according to the official text of the Department of Justice.
These requests contained false statements regarding the payroll expenses of the fictitious companies that he had to cover after the emergency presented by COVID-19 since March 2020, the federal executive said.
According to David T Hines’ statement to the US justice authorities, after receiving the federal money, he bought the 2020 Lamborghini Huracán and did not make the payroll payments for which the loan was intended.
The Lamborghini Huracán, with a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, did not last long in the hands of con man David T Hines, as authorities proceeded with its confiscation.
But they not only took away the high-performance car made by the Italian house Lamborghini, but also 3.4 million dollars from bank accounts.
On the other hand, David T Hines pleaded guilty on February 10, 2021 and will have an appointment before a judge on April 14 to hear his sentence.
