Eddie Sáez, a generous and gracious Hispanic father of seven children, was shot to death inside his own business. It’s a crime that has outraged an entire community. The Homicide Division of the Fayetteville Police Department (FPD), in North Carolina, is investigating the tragic case.

At 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 2021, 34-year-old Eddie Sáez was working as usual at his Southern City Swag Boutique clothing store, located at 4621 Yadkin Road, in the town of Fayetteville, North Carolina, when two gunmen entered the small business.

According to the case report of the officers from the Homicide Division of the Fayetteville Police Department, the two armed men did not steal anything from Eddie Sáez’s store. The two men just came in and shot their victim. Then they immediately turned and fled down the street.

Walid Albarati, was also on Yadkin Road in his neighboring grocery store when he heard the shooting and went out to see what was happening. The man told Fayetteville Police that he spotted the two armed men running away from Eddie Sáez’s business and disappearing into the neighborhood.

The neighbor entered Eddie Sáez’s store and that’s when he saw him lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Walid Albarati got out his cell phone to call the Fayetteville Police Department emergency number and reported that his neighbor and friend was badly injured by what appeared to be several  gun shots.

However, when the first patrolmen from the Fayetteville Police Department arrived at the Southern City Swag Boutique clothing store, there was nothing they could do to help Eddie Sáez. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. At that point the case was picked up by officers from the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Division.

Officers from the Homicide Division of the Fayetteville Police Department have images of two African-American men. They were captured on the security cameras in Eddie Sáez’s store. The two men entered the store moments before the Hispanic man was shot dead so now they are considered suspects.

J. Olsen, a detective for the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Division, is now asking the Fayetteville community in North Carolina that if anyone recognizes Eddie Sáez’s alleged killers, they contact his office at 910.709.1958 . All tips will be kept anonymous.

At sunset last Friday, January 7, 2021, the family and friends of Eddie Sáez gathered outside his store, known as Southern City Swag Boutique. They held a prayer vigil to remember a man who was admired for his generosity, kindness and his commitment to the Hispanic community.

Walid Albarati, who found Eddie Sáez’s body, remembered him as a “beautiful person who always had a positive energy… he never mentioned having problems with anyone. His intentions were only to do good … he always shared that with me, to do good to others,” said the owner of the neighboring grocery store.

The prayer vigil and gathering to mourn the murder of Eddie Sáez was covered by local media in the city of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Local television stations WRAL-TV 5 and CBS 17 collected many emotional messages from friends and family of the beloved clothing store owner.

Michael Rivera, Eddie Sáez’s brother, revealed that his loved ones called him simply ‘Papito’. Although for Rivera he was always “my little brother… in this town many people knew my brother because they know what he did for the people, for the neighbors, for the community, «added the grieving man.

According to his brother Michael Rivera, Eddie Sáez was known for community organizing and acts of generosity such as giving school supplies to children who were economically disadvantaged. He also gave them haircuts and he even rented bouncy houses for them to enjoy so they could forget about their difficulties for a little while.

Eddie Sáenz’s entire family does not understand why he was killed, since robbery apparently was not the motive for the crime. Strangely, the murderers did not take anything from the clothing store. Michael Rivera points out a theory. «This world is cruel, you know? There is a lot of jealousy, envy,» said the man who is looking for answers after his brother’s murder.

One of the most emotional moments in Eddie Sáenz’s vigil was when his eldest daughter, who is barely 17 years old and is named Destiny Sáez,, took the podium to remember the last conversation she had with her father. She said her father promised her that he would buy her first car for her, a promise that unfortunately he will no longer be able to fulfill.

“I spoke to him and told him that they had already given me my driver’s license and he told me that then it was time to take me to the road… he told me that he was going to buy me my first car and that he was going to put a pink bow on it. Now, he can’t teach me how to drive it.” These were the heartbreaking words of Eddie’s eldest daughter, Destiny Sáez.
