Daniel Barragán was arrested in Texas on charges of having unleashed a massacre that left three people dead. The Homicide Division of the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), in Texas, arrested Barragán on Monday, August 16, 2021, accused of three counts of capital murder.

The arrest warrant against Daniel Barragán, consulted by MundoHispánico in Texas, says that the man is accused of starting a shooting at the Boom Boom Sports Bar, 1621 South New Braunfels Avenue, in San Antonio at 3:23 a.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2021, when the place was packed with customers.

Daniel Barragán, 34, faces three counts of capital murder that according to the Texas State Penal Code it is the only crime punishable by the death penalty for anyone who finds himself guilty of that crime after facing trial. Barragán is already in the Bexar County Jail awaiting criminal prosecution.

The three deathly victims Daniel Barragán were identified by the authorities as Mauro Rodríguez, 26; April Rodríguez, 32 years old and Dan Martínez, 28 years old. Two other people were badly wounded by the shooting but their names will not be released by the authorities.

According to the investigation of the Detectives of the Homicide Division of the SAPD, the Boom Boom Bar is a club called ‘after hours’ and that can operate with a special license after 2:00 in the morning when the outlets that sell alcohol must close their doors according to Texas law.

The Boom Boom Bar was packed with customers and loud music when Daniel Barragán allegedly got into an argument with other customers for reasons that are not yet known. It is not specified if any of the dead or wounded were part of the brawl against Daniel Barragán.

During the altercation, according to the agents of the SAPD’s Homicide Division, Daniel Barragán challenged other people and they all left the scene. After Barragán threatened his rivals to drive to the Boom Boom Sports Bar parking lot, he went to his car and pulled out a gun.

Then Daniel Barragán faced his rivals and, although there was a crowd outside the Boom Boom Bar, he began to shoot towards the group of people. Some of those who were injured, according to eyewitness testimonies, had nothing to do with the lawsuit and at least one was trying to prevent the fight from escalating.

Daniel Barragán, after setting up the shooting, got into his car and left behind a scene of blood, injuries and pain. Several witnesses who survived the chaos called the SAPD emergency number to request urgent help for the victims at the Boom Boom Sports Bar.

The first to arrive at the crime scene were paramedics from the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) who transported three of the injured to various hospitals in the area. One of the wounded died shortly after arriving at the Brown Army Medical Center emergency room.

Two of the victims, it is not detailed in the SAPD investigation which ones exactly, died at the scene after the shooting that led Daniel Barragán. The case was so dramatic that William McManus himself, head of the SAPD, appeared at the Boom Boom Sports Bar to coordinate the investigations.

The agents of the SAPD Homicide Division managed to obtain the statements of dozens of witnesses and all agreed in pointing out the characteristics of the shooter who was later identified as Daniel Barragán. In addition, the videos of the security cameras of the Boom Boom Sports Bar offered details of the crime.

In the videos of the security cameras of the Boom Boom Sports Bar, the agents of the Homicide Division of the SAPD could see how Daniel Barragán stars in the fight. Some testified that the men involved in the fight threw the club’s billiard balls at each other, some of which hit innocent bystanders.

After the fight, Daniel Barragán, according to the investigation, goes to his car to take out a semi-automatic rifle with which he faces the crowd and begins to shoot left and right. The documents of the case do not state what type of car Daniel Barragán was driving.

Based on that, the detectives of the Homicide Division of the SAPD issued an arrest warrant against Daniel Barragán since the same morning of last Sunday, August 15, 2021. All the police corporations in the San Antonio area were on alert to capture the alleged perpetrator of the massacre.

On Monday afternoon, when Daniel Barragán’s name was already known to all police corporations, a SAPD patrolman spotted the alleged murderer in his car and stopped him to give him a traffic ticket. Upon verifying his identity, the agent called for reinforcements and detectives from the Homicide Division arrived to make the arrest.

Daniel Barragán waits in the prison of the Bexar County to determine when you will have your first hearing. The qualifying judge who received his case set him a bond of almost two million dollars if he wants to face his case in freedom. So far the man has not paid bail and continues to be detained.

April Rodríguez and Mauro Rodríguez, two of the fatal victims, were brothers and the boy was the father of a three-year-old girl, as Erika Candela revealed to the media in San Antonio, Texas, when appearing in several interviews during a vigil outside Boom Boom Sports the place of the massacre.

After hours club shootings are becoming a problem for authorities in Texas. Just last Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 2:00 in the morning at the Maserati Club, 10200 North Freeway, in North Houston, another shooting was unleashed. The place also operated with an ‘after hours’ license.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) A gunman broke into the Maserati Club, when it was packed with customers, and started a fight against other people. The shooter killed one man and wounded five others. So far he has not been identified or detained.

The three deaths attributed to Daniel Barragán are one more link in the violence with firearms. The non-profit organization National Archive of Gun Violence, which fights to raise awareness about the dangers of the free sale of firearms, reports that so far this year 27,671 people have died

As of Sunday, August 15, 2o21 of those people who have been shot dead in the United States, a total of 12,689 were murdered and 14,982 committed suicide. 25,498 were injured. The country has already experienced 432 mass shootings in the first half of the year, in which at least four people died in the same event.
