We can not even sleep peacefully

with the surprises of this 2020. More and more strange and mutant bugs appear, people who do crazy things and strange phenomena.

And, to finish the month of October (and we still have two to go), we are going to give you an unpleasant surprise if you don’t like spiders one bit.

Surely you have seen, even in a photo, the tremendous appearance that a tarantula has, with its enormous size, its furry legs and body and its many little eyes looking at you.

As much as they tell you that it does nothing, just knowing that it is out there hidden in logs and holes makes your hair stand on end. Well … what if someone tells you that in Mexico and the United States there are flying tarantulas? PLOP!

Well, that cold sweat followed by vertigo from panic is what the followers of the Facebook page @stamamalon, a blog with more than 2.8 million followers, felt last week.

And so, without anesthesia, the terrifying image of said bug was published there. With his horrendous attributes and with wings! And the nightmare began. Can you imagine that this spider can take flight and land on your head?

The image shows what looks like a tremendously large spider with huge wings and two long antennae perched on a red brick wall.

Yes, it is to scream and run, especially if you suffer from arachnophobia. And the comments, so far more than 22,000, began to unleash.

But, despite its hideous appearance, other comments were making it clear what this hideous creature is about.

It is actually a harmless but gruesome … MOTH!

It’s about the antheraea polyphemus and it is not a tarantula or spider of any kind. The poor creature only has the misfortune of having hairy legs and a body and, yes it is true, quite similar to those of the tarantula, but they are not distant cousins.

It is actually a type of giant silk moth native to North America, with local populations throughout central Canada and the United States. It is tan in color and has a typical wingspan of about 15 cm.

Its most distinctive feature are the large purplish eye-shaped spots on each of its hind wings, one of which can be seen in the Facebook image.

“It’s not Facebook friends for nothing, but I’m super friendly with the environment and at the same time I’m arachnophobic and I was in my bedroom, casual, listening to music on my iPad and then I felt something that touched my hair, after that I took off a hearing aid and I looked at a black shadow on the wall (right where I was listening to my music) and heard that it was close to where I took off the hearing aid, without thinking twice I took my iPad and put it on the wall to kill what was there and kablam !, it was one of those butterfly spiders. When I saw it I was perplexed and did not think they existed, I read that they are butterflies at night and that their fur can even cause allergies or hives. So take it seriously, ”someone who came across a antheraea polyphemus.
