Jorge Falcón coronavirus. On this new virus that arrived this year causing a great contingency worldwide, it was said that a study published by the British Journal of Dermatology conducted by Spanish scientists described certain skin lesions that may indicate that a person has COVID-19.

The study was conducted in 375 patients with COVID-19 in April, a month where the pandemic was at its highest peak so far.

According to Dr. Elmer Huerta, it is important for the public to know that «the new coronavirus is capable of causing skin lesions» so that they can seek early medical assistance, CNN reported.

According to Spanish scientists, 9 percent of the patients studied had blisters filled with transparent and isolated fluid, with no other apparent additional lesion on the skin. These skin bubbles usually appear early in the disease.

Another type of coronavirus lesion on the skin that occurred in 19 percent of patients occurs on the hands and feet in the form of red spots similar to rosettes that come out from exposure to low temperatures.

In some cases they may be accompanied by blisters filled with a yellowish pus-like fluid. These injuries usually occur during recovery at the end of the illness.

Another type of coronavirus condition on the skin also appeared in 19 percent of cases in the form of hives, similar to the rash that comes from a food allergy.

The fourth type appeared in only 6 percent of the cases studied and is present in the most serious patients, usually those who are hospitalized.

It is a lesion similar to purple spots that can cause ulcers or wounds on the extremities. This symptom may be associated with clotting problems.

Jorge Falcón coronavirus. The Spanish researchers highlighted that the most frequent lesion detected in the study, with 47 percent of the cases, were hives of different shapes and very variable extension. The scientists indicated that these hives resemble those that appear after a mosquito or flea bite.

Dr. Huerta indicated that if a person does not have the main symptoms of COVID-19 such as cough, fever, headache or difficulty breathing but has some of these skin lesions for no apparent reason, they should seek medical help immediately.

According to another study, the coronavirus can survive for almost a month on smooth surfaces such as paper bills, stainless steel, vinyl, and glass such as cell phone screens.

The research was published in the journal Virology by researchers from Australia’s national scientific research agency and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).

The study conducted at the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong, Australia, suggests that the COVID-19 virus can survive up to 28 days on the aforementioned surfaces.

The research also highlighted that direct sunlight can rapidly inactivate the virus so it can survive longer in cold temperatures, according to The Independent.

The study emphasized that the resistance of the virus in materials such as glass was an important discovery since it translates into an increased risk of contagion of COVID-19 since the touch screens of cell phones, ATMs and self-service boxes are contact surfaces that are not usually cleaned as often as others.

The research authors suggested that glass surfaces should be «regularly disinfected, especially in multi-user environments.»

Dr Debbie Eagles, one of the study’s authors, said the research showed that the coronavirus can “remain infectious on surfaces for long periods of time, reinforcing the need for good practices, such as regular hand washing and cleaning. The surfaces».
