  • Police warn about this kind of dangerous and illegal “jokes”.

A Hispanic from Georgia has just been jailed for allegedly committing an extremely rare crime.

And it is that everything indicates that Fredy Contreras, 47, planned to have fun for a while, but in an extremely dangerous way.

According to a report from the Gwinnett county authorities, one of their helicopters was patrolling a neighborhood in the city of Lilburn at night in search of a stolen vehicle.

It was after nine at night, so it was completely dark, when suddenly, a huge green light appeared in the path of the helicopter.

Seeing the light reflecting directly towards them, which is against the law, the pilots had to deviate so as not to risk losing control of the aircraft.

However, as they already had the exact location where the light was coming from, they reported the incident to their companions on the ground, who acted immediately.

Several patrols arrived at the indicated site and to their good luck, they found the Hispanic still outside the house, still with the laser in his hands.

Contreras was confronted on the spot, but initially denied everything. However, the officers showed him some of the images that the helicopter managed to capture from the air and when he was cornered, he had no choice but to acknowledge what he had done.

“It was only then that he confessed that he was just trying to have fun for a bit by pointing his laser at our helicopter,” explained Collin Flynn, one of the spokesmen for the Gwinnett police.

Contreras was arrested on the spot on the charge of using a prohibited object against an air unit, a misdemeanor in Georgia, but one that can also become serious when federal authorities intervene.

In fact, Gwinnett police reported that in addition to prosecuting the Hispanic locally, they will also report him to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to take action on the matter.

Being under a federal investigation could be extremely expensive for Crontreras, as the case would then be processed as a felony.

Flynn took advantage of this incident to remind the public that pointing some kind of light at an air unit should never be done.

“It is something illegal and extremely dangerous, because something like this could limit the abilities of any pilot and cause an accident that would not only kill people on board, but also innocents below,” added the police spokesman.

That a child had done Fredy’s thing would not surprise me, because in their eagerness to have fun they are capable of mischief that many times can even hurt them.

However, waiting for a man in his early fifties to take to the streets to point his laser at an aircraft in order to have a good time, is incredible.

Now, I have to admit that in my country I did not know that something like this was illegal, but when I arrived in the United States, I found out that with regard to air units, here there are many restrictions and we all have to know and respect them.

It never hurts to remember that old proverb: “Wherever you go, do what you see”, which means that even if we are foreigners we are obliged to know the laws of the place where we plan to settle. I said…

Thanks for reading my chronicle today. Until next time.
