  • Chronicle: Hispanic couple falls due to sexual abuse.
  • Both individuals will be held accountable for their misdeeds.
  • Children and women are often the main victims of this kind of crime.

Two Hispanic men from Georgia are behind bars for allegedly committing a series of sexual assaults.

The first to fall was Pedro Rivera Almendares, 42, who was one of the most wanted in Gwinnett County on charges related to incest and sodomy.

The police had been tracking him for a couple of months, until they finally caught him.

“Expel this class of criminals from our communities so that they do not again harm other innocents, especially vulnerable children, generates a very special satisfaction,” stressed the Sheriff’s Office of that town through its Facebook page.

“Any person who knows of a child who has been the victim of one of these predators, should report it immediately,” the agency added.

Investigators are pleased to have found his whereabouts just before he was to return to his native Honduras to flee from US justice.

Kendall Chávez, 34, is the other Latino who will also have to be held accountable for “perverse.”

Subject was caught by Cobb County authorities shortly after a home invasion occurred.

Police allege that Chávez repeatedly knocked on the window of an apartment in the city of Marietta where a girl he liked lived and then went into hiding.

When the woman opened the door to verify what it was about, she was forcibly intercepted by the suspect.

Once they were both inside, he physically assaulted her to force her to have sex with him.

After committing the outrage, Chávez fled, as reported to MundoHispánico official sources.

The house where the incident occurred is located very close to an elementary school, which caused the police to deploy faster than usual, something that was key to the arrest of the suspect.

Chávez faces charges of aggravated assault, sodomy and invasion of private property, among other serious charges, for which he was denied the privilege of being released on bail.

Two fewer predators in our neighborhoods, but I’m sure there are still plenty out there hiding in the shadows.

The most unfortunate thing is that although among the common victims of sexual abuse are women and elderly people who cannot defend themselves, generally those most affected by this scourge are usually children.

A study of Child Center Inc. shows that at least one in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthday.

Experts say that 90 percent of these outrages are committed by someone close to the victims, a person whom they generally trusted and even loved.

Neighbors, religious leaders, teachers, “good friends”, stepparents, uncles, cousins, grandparents and even parents or siblings, are often the predators, according to official figures.

One more reminder of the enormous danger that our children run every day and not only outside, but inside their own homes.

It is never too late for us to open our eyes and understand the risks of allowing strangers into our family circles.

How terrible it is to know that a man is capable of laying his eyes on an innocent little boy and even worse, knowing that it is his own blood, such as incest.

But hey, the world is upside down and this reality there is no human power that can change it.

The good thing about this is that unlike certain countries that I prefer not to mention so as not to hurt anyone’s susceptibilities, here in the United States intimate relationships with a minor are paid very dearly.

And it is that the law is severe when it comes to an abused child and I am glad of that, because surely that has caused more than one pedophile to abstain. If not, we would be worse off.
