  • The Latino was sentenced to life imprisonment for his drinking problem
  • Without a doubt, Nicolás Herminio Reyes learned his lesson too late

A Latino from Georgia will have to spend the rest of his life in prison after accumulating a series of crimes related to his alcohol problems.

The legal troubles for Nicolás Herminio Reyes, 43, began in October 2002, when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor known in English as DUI.

The Mexican was released after posting bail, but did not appear for his appointment before a state judge, so a year later, in October 2003, he was arrested again.

In March 2004, Reyes was caught again behind the wheel completely intoxicated.

However, he was once again lucky enough to be granted bail.

The one who was unlucky was Reyes’s girlfriend, Sadot Carmona, who was murdered by the Mexican just a few months after his release.

In the early morning of August 1, 2004, Reyes and Cardona were chatting at a birthday party at their home with some of their family and friends when suddenly, over the heat of drinks, they began to argue.

The fight became so heated, some witnesses said, that the woman had to hit her boyfriend with a beer bottle on the head.

The subject left the home at the request of some of his relatives and went to sleep in the car.

What they never imagined is that when the party ended, Reyes would return to the house to take revenge for what he considered an assault, according to the authorities.

Unbeknownst to anyone, he entered his partner’s room and stabbed her several times, according to the evidence presented against him.

The victim had multiple injuries to his chest, neck and other parts of his body, which ended his life on the spot.

His body was found the next morning by some of his associates, who immediately called the police. However, by that time the murderer had already fled.

But sooner or later justice always comes. Reyes was captured in California in 2016, for assault on a child, again, under the influence of liquor.

Although on that occasion he gave false information, after his arrest they checked his fingerprints and DNA, which tested positive with the suspect of the crime in Georgia, so they decided better to try him for the crime and not for the last crime for which he had been arrested.

Last week a Gwinnett County jury found the defendant guilty of murder and aggravated assault charges, after several days of deliberation.

Ironically, the same blood found in the bottle that his girlfriend smashed on his head a few hours before her murder is what investigators found on the knife with which the crime was committed.

Reyes’ wife, who lives in Mexico, testified against her husband, claiming that she also suffered domestic violence from him.

The woman stated that once she asked for a divorce, he chased her to the bathroom and put her head in the toilet.

After considering that information as “vital”, the jury unanimously found him guilty of the murder, for which a state judge sentenced him to life imprisonment.

With this sentence, the Prosecutor’s Office said that Reyes will never again break the law or attack innocent people.

Incredible, so that we can see how far out of control some people go when it comes to intoxicating drinks.

There have been so many cases that I have documented of people who literally ruined their lives because of addictions.

There are countless stories that I have exposed of subjects who killed others while driving drunk or drugged.

Also that of individuals who, in the heat of the drinks, committed atrocious crimes and when they reconsidered, it was too late to repair the damage.

Thank you very much for reading my chronicle today in MundoHispánico. Until next time.
