According to the case documents, consulted by MundoHispánico In Texas, the young mother Adela González Martínez was beaten to death in her Brownsville home. She was killed by Charly Angel Carrillo-Torres and Jonathan Xavier Román-Martínez, who were hired by José Arnoldo Rodríguez.

Adela González Martínez, 39, was the mother of the two children of her ex-husband José Arnoldo Rodríguez, 36, and paradoxically it was the defendant himself who reported the murder to the Brownsville Police Department (BPD, for its acronym in English). Allegedly to deflect suspicion away from himself.

On June 29, 2016, Adela González Martínez and José Arnoldo Rodríguez appeared before the civil courts of the Cameron County to file for divorce. The divorce was granted almost a year later, following a dispute between the two parties who agreed to joint custody of the couple’s two minor children.

José Arnoldo Rodríguez, according to his own testimony to the BPD agents, went to the house of his ex-wife Adela González Martínez at 2200 Dana Avenue in Brownsville, Texas, after he had tried calling her several times on her cell phone, but she wasn’t answering. He arrived at the house between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning.

According to José Arnoldo Rodríguez, when he arrived at the house of his ex-wife Adela González Martínez, he noticed that the door was open. Then, allegedly concerned about what might have happened to the woman, he called the BPD emergency number without entering the house.

At Adela González Martínez’s house, the first two officers to arrive entered the home and searched all the rooms, until they found the woman lying on her bed in the main bedroom with her legs hanging off the mattress on one side. The woman had a pillow over her head.
