NEW YORK (AP) – The Major League Baseball commissioner’s office and the players’ union have extended Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer’s leave of absence for nearly two weeks while sexual offenses allegations that have been filed against him are being investigated. On July 2, Bauer was suspended for seven days, under the terms of the joint major and union policy on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. Those provisions were adopted in 2015.

A first extension covered until July 15. Now, the license has been extended until the 27th. Pasadena, California, police and Major League Baseball are investigating allegations brought by a southern woman who says Bauer strangled her unconscious and punched her during a couple of sexual encounters earlier this year.

The woman obtained an order of protection against Bauer last month, under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act. According to the woman’s statement, attached to the protection order, the attacks in the second encounter caused her several injuries, including two black eyes, swelling and bleeding on one lip, several bruises and scratches on one side of her face.

The pitcher’s agents, Jon Fetterolf and Rachel Luba, have denied the allegations. Fetterolf has said that his client’s interactions with the woman were consensual. A hearing related to the protection order will be held on July 23. Bauer’s lawyers plan to refute the allegations. Bauer agreed to a three-year, $ 102 million contract to join his hometown Dodgers in early 2021. Last season he had won his first Cy Yung trophy with the Cincinnati Reds. This season he was 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 17 starts.
