  • Dallas Police Department continues investigation into two deaths linked to each other

Bryan Bernal Rivas was arrested in Dallas,

Texas for being allegedly responsible for a shooting murder of another Hispanic youth, named Christopher Ramírez Veloz; as well as probably that of Daniel Víctor Barrera Jr.

The Homicide Division of the Dallas Police Department (DPD) charged Bernal Rivas, 17, as allegedly responsible for the shooting death of Daniel Víctor Barrera, Jr., 21.

The boy, despite his age, is already detained in the Dallas county, since he will face his case as an adult, since the authorities consider that he acted in full awareness of his actions in allegedly killing Barrera Jr.

The accusation that Bryan Bernal Rivas faces is serious, since the Texas State Penal Code It details that the murder charge, like the one the boy faces, carries a penalty of 20 to 99 years in prison if he is found guilty.

The case against Bryan Bernal Rivas is just one more link in the long chain of violence that the citizens of Dallas have experienced in 2020 and one of the most violent in its history, according to authorities.

According to the investigation of the DPD detectives, consulted by MundoHispánico In Texas, Bryan Bernal Rivas is involved in two deadly shootings, but has only been charged with one, so far.

At 2:26 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, the DPD emergency number received a call reporting a casualty at the Moulin Rouge Apartments complex, 1250 Moulin Rouge Drive, in East Dallas.

The time the events took place was very relevant to the authorities’ investigation and linked two shootings.

In their report, the first patrolmen who arrived at the scene stated that they found lying on the floor of the parking lot of the apartment complex a young man wounded by several bullets.

The patrolmen asked the paramedics of the Dallas Fire Department (DFD) to transport the injured boy to an area hospital where he died in the emergency room shortly after arrival.

Thanks to his identification, the authorities learned that the dead boy was named Christopher Ramírez Veloz, 20 years old, and a neighbor of the housing complex where the events took place.

When DPD agents from the Homicide Division were just going to Moulin Rouge Drive to investigate the death of Christopher Ramírez Veloz, another call came to the emergency number to warn of a second shooting.

At 2:41 p.m., just 15 minutes into the first report, DPD patrols were dispatched to the Ridgecrest Apartments, 418 S. Walton Walker Boulevard, also in the eastern Dallas metropolitan area.

At the scene, DPD agents found another Hispanic young man also lying on the floor of the parking lot, with several gunshot wounds.

Like the first boy, the DFD paramedics transferred the second injured man to another hospital in the area, where he also died from his injuries and was identified as Daniel Víctor Barrera Jr., 21 years old.

The agents of the DPD’s Homicide Division had to split up to solve the two homicides that occurred in the same area of Dallas, with so little difference of minutes and in the same way.

As the investigations progressed, detectives from the Homicide Division discovered that the two shootings and deaths were related to each other and the evidence pointed to a neighborhood boy as responsible.

However, as the investigation continues, some of the documents in the case are not available for public consultation.

In the early hours of the night of Sunday, December 13, DPD agents were able to identify Bryan Bernal Rivas as the person allegedly responsible for having killed Barrera Jr. with several bullets.

Agents arrested the boy and he was taken to the Dallas County jail, charged with the murder of Barrera Jr. The motive for the crime is not listed in the case documents.

As of this writing, Bryan Bernal Rivas has only been charged with one homicide. However, if your participation is proven in the first case you could receive more charges.

Another line of investigation being followed by the authorities is that Bryan Bernal Rivas allegedly killed Daniel Víctor Barrera, Jr. in revenge for the murder of Christopher Ramírez Veloz.

Agents from the DPD Homicide Division are investigating the two possibilities within the tragedy that left three Hispanic families marked by pain and tragedy. Agents continue to investigate the relationship between the three young men.

Bryan Bernal Rivas faced his first hearing before a qualifying judge on Monday, December 14, who read the charges and set him a bond of $ 500,000 if he wants to face his process in freedom.

The DPD needs the help of the Hispanic community to solve the crime of Christopher Ramírez Veloz, so they ask that if anyone has reliable information about the case, they contact Detective Machorro of the Homicide Division, at 214-918-9096 . All tracks will be kept anonymous.
