Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported in a statement that on September 14, Border Patrol agents (USBP) assigned to the Eagle Pass South station found two children abandoned in Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, Texas.

In the midst of routine operations, agents noticed something strange by the river. “At approximately noon, Border Patrol river agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South station were conducting boat operations when they noticed unusual color on the riverbank,” they reported.

The agents immediately approached to find out what it was about. “While the agents were investigating the article, they discovered two abandoned young children,” the text explains.

A note on the carrier

According to the authorities, the children were rescued safe and sound. “Agents responded quickly and recovered both children safely,” Customs and Border Protection said.

But it was not all, the little ones carried a role that would reveal more about their origin. “A note under the baby carrier revealed that the 2-year-old girl and the 3-month-old boy, both Honduran nationals, were brothers,” the authorities said.

The children are safe

The children were completely alone and is that the Border Patrol agents looked for who could have taken him there, but they did not find anything. “An exhaustive search of the area was carried out and no additional people were found,” they noted.

Despite the risk to which the two very young minors were exposed, “the children did not require medical attention and were transferred to the Uvalde station for processing.”

As can be seen in the images released by CBP, the 3-month-old was inside a blue baby carrier, while the girl, dressed in pink and yellow and carefully combed, was next to him. Both were found in the undergrowth.

The authorities indicated that to report suspicious activities in the Del Rio Sector, citizens can contact the toll-free number 1-866-511-8727.

Several minors in custody

In recent months, authorities have found several minors at the border. According to data from the Department of Homeland Security, as of Monday, September 13, CBP already had 587 unaccompanied minors in custody.
