The authorities presume that it is trafficking of immigrants because the people who are heard in the calls to 911 spoke Spanish.

“Help, blessed God, help,” you hear someone say in Spanish.

“It’s heartbreaking to hear because clearly behind the caller, in the background, you can hear other people in the vehicle, in the trailer, and they are also yelling for help in Spanish and saying they have run out of air,” said the Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, to KABB. Also, a video recorded by a surveillance camera on I-35 near Fischer Highway, captured a tanker truck that met the characteristics mentioned by the man.

The person who contacted 911 assured that some of the people who were traveling inside the tanker truck were already dead.
The Sheriff’s Office and the San Antonio Police Department are asking anyone with information on immigrant trafficking to contact authorities.

“I bet big money that if the smugglers find someone in the back of that trailer who is very, very ill, as a result of the conditions they were exposed to or even dead, they are not going to do the right thing. They are going to dump the bodies or they are going to abandon someone in a hospital, maybe. They are certainly not going to do the right thing and that is why we are letting our agents to be attentive to anything, “said Salazar.

Many immigrant families have crossed the border between Mexico and the United States in the first weeks of Joe Biden’s government, The Associated Press reported.

There are warning signs of the same crises that marked former President Biden’s tenure: Hundreds of recently released immigrants are turned over to nonprofit groups, sometimes without warning, and reports like Nailet’s of prolonged detentions in centers designed for short stays.

Measures to contain the virus have drastically reduced the space available in detention centers that were overwhelmed by a spike in arrivals in 2018 and 2019, when news surfaced of families crammed into cells and unaccompanied children having to take care of themselves among them.

Most Border Patrol posts are not designed to serve children and families, or to retain people for the long term. To manage the new arrivals, the agency reopened Tuesday a large tent compound in South Texas that houses immigrant families and children.
