A Florida man shot a woman and is now holding an eight-month-old baby hostage at a Cortney Manor apartment complex off Collins Road in Jacksonville, Florida.
Local police confirmed News4Jax that a SWAT team (in English: Special Weapons And Tactics, Armas y Tactics Especiales) is at the scene due to the hostage situation that began Sunday night around 10 pm and continues to this day.
According to the media, the armed man is holding the eight-month-old baby hostage after shooting the girl’s mother, who was able to leave the apartment unharmed, according to a relative.
Lourdes Rodríguez, the baby’s aunt, said her niece shouldn’t be going through this and that she was unaware of the man’s intentions.
“She is so precious. She is a happy baby, you know, and it is sad that she is going through this, ”said the Hispanic.
“No child should go through this. She is small, but she can still feel the tension and who knows what is going on right now. I just want her out of there, “added Rodríguez.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office installed a mobile command center in the area near the apartment complex.
Residents have not been able to enter their homes due to the police operation and many have had to sleep in their vehicles. Similarly, they have not been able to go out to work.
This story is still in development and we will continue to update as more information becomes available.
