Apple iOS 16 update. Apple, announced an update of the operating system for almost all of its products, including the iPhone. The company also unveiled a surprise with the second generation of its processor, the M2, and a new MacBook Air equipped with this chip.

The company kicked off its annual WWDC developer conference by presenting the latest news from its headquarters in Cupertino, California which, after two years of the pandemic, reopened its doors to external programmers and journalists. As usual at WWDC, many new software developments were expected, but this time the hardware announcements were front and center in the presentation.

According to EFE, Apple unveiled the new M2 processor, the evolution of the M1 processor that it presented in 2020, ending nearly a decade of using Intel chips. The processor promises improved performance and will now equip a new MacBook Air, the best-selling laptop in the world which Apple has given a major facelift.

“Completely redesigned around the M2, MacBook Air is thinner, lighter and faster, with a bigger screen, a better camera, all-day battery life and four beautiful finishes,” said Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of MacBook Air company marketing. The laptop, which will be available next month with a starting price of $1,199, is 20% smaller than before, measuring 11.3 millimeters thick and weighing 1.2 kilograms (2.7 pounds). The new M2 will now also equip Apple’s second best-selling laptop, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which will retain its current design and start at $1,299. Filed Under: Apple updates its software

In a futuristic pre-recorded presentation with the vice president of software, Craig Federighi in the forefront, Apple also unveiled a whole new range of operating systems, starting with iOS 16 for the iPhone. It that will be distinguished, above all, by a totally renewed and customizable lock screen. Agencia EFE also reported that this new lock screen will give users the possibility to choose from a multitude of designs, include widgets and incorporate updates in real time.

The Messages app has also been revamped. Apple has listened to repeated customer requests to allow editing and recalling messages once they’ve been sent, as well as marking a conversation as unread so you can remember to reply later. In addition, EFE reported that iOS 16 also brings improvements to the voice dictation system, to the maps application — with more detail and 3D available in several countries, including Spain — and to Wallet, with a new system called Apple Pay Later that allows you to finance purchases in four interest-free installments. There are also big changes for the Apple Watch, iPad, and computers, with thoughtful changes to make it easier for people to cooperate across all kinds of projects, in a move clearly supported by the growth of remote and hybrid work after the pandemic. In addition, interoperability between Apple products is reinforced, with mechanisms that will allow, for example, the iPhone camera to be used as a computer webcam or to easily transfer a video call from a telephone to a laptop.

CarPlay, Apple’s system for automobiles, also receives updates for greater integration with the vehicle and to be able to display content on different screens or directly control the vehicle’s climate. What we didn’t hear was any news in the field of augmented reality, despite the fact that many experts expected a strong bet in this field, perhaps with the commercialization of virtual reality glasses that have been rumored for a long time. The new software will be available to developers now and is expected to reach the general public in the coming months, according to Tim Cook, the company’s CEO. The WWDC will continue throughout the week with activities for programmers, mainly online. Filed As: Apple updates its software
