ALERT: FSIS Issues Health Alert for Ready-to-Eat Meat and Poultry Products

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products on Friday.

It is believed that they could be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass.

In a Press release, FSIS said did not issue a recall because the products are believed to be no longer available for purchase.

The ready-to-eat meat and poultry items were produced by Taylor Farms in Dallas, Texas, on Monday and Tuesday, according to the press release.

These are the products that FSIS targets in its public health alert.

10 ounce plastic bowl package containing “SIMPLE MEAL. SPAGHETTI SQUASH Y POLLO ALFREDO ”with batch code TFD279AU23 and better for 10/15/2020; or batch code TFD280AU23 and better until 10/16/2020.

10 ounce plastic bowl package containing “SIMPLE MEAL. SPAGHETTI SQUASH WITH CHICKEN AND PESTO ”with batch code TFD279AU23 and better before 10/13/20; or batch code TDF280AU23 and better until 10/14/2020.

10 ounce plastic bowl package containing “SIMPLE MEAL. SPAGHETTI SQUASH AND PEPPERONI ”with batch code TDF279AU23 and better for 10/15/2020; or batch code TDF280AU23 and better until 10/16/2020.

11 oz plastic bowl package containing “SIMPLE MEAL. SPAGHETTI SQUASH AND MEATBALLS ”with batch code TFD279AU23 and better for 10/13/2020; or batch code TFD280AU23 and better before 10/14/2020.

The products carry the establishment number “P-34733” or “EST. 34733 ”inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were shipped to retail stores in San Antonio and Houston. The problem was discovered when a Taylor Farms employee discovered pieces of glass in the product during production.

FSIS officials said they were concerned that some of the products may still be in consumers’ refrigerators. Consumers who have purchased these items are urged not to eat them. Products must be discarded or returned to the store where they were purchased, FSIS said.

Consumers with questions about food safety can call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) or live chat through Ask USDA from 10 a.m. to 6 pm EDT Monday through Friday.

Consumers can also search for food safety messages on Ask USDA or send a question by email to MPHotline@usda.gov.

For consumers who need to report a problem with a meat, chicken or egg product, the Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System is available 24 hours a day at https://foodcomplaint.fsis.usda.gov/eCCF/.
